What’s the realistic value of a forum backlink today?
I’m seeing mixed opinions on whether a forum backlink is worth pursuing now. Most forums mark links as nofollow/UGC, some hide links from new accounts, and a lot of moderators remove anything that looks promotional.

The biggest difference I’ve seen is how the link is introduced. If your reply is useful without the link, moderators and users tend to accept it as a reference rather than an ad. But if the post is thin and the link is the main event, it gets removed fast. When I shifted to “answer fully first, cite optionally,” my link removals dropped and threads performed better. That approach aligns well with forum backlink best practices.
